Policy details
Our commitment to your privacy
James R. Barnes, Attorney at Law (“the firm,” “we,” “us”) operates jrbarneslaw.com. Your privacy matters to us, professionally and ethically. This policy explains what information this website collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to this website only, not to information you share with us as a client, which is protected by attorney-client privilege and the confidentiality rules of The Florida Bar.
The information we collect
Information you provide directly: if you call, email, or submit the contact form, we receive what you choose to share, typically your name, phone number, email address, county, and a short description of your situation.
Information collected automatically: like most websites, this site may collect standard technical data through cookies and analytics tools such as Google Analytics, including your browser type, device, pages visited, and how you found us (for example, a search engine or an advertisement). This data helps us understand how visitors use the site and improve it. Third-party advertising platforms such as Google may also use cookies to measure our advertising and to show our ads to people who have visited this site (remarketing).
How we use information
We are the sole owner of information collected on this site. We use it to respond to your inquiry, to evaluate whether we can help with your legal matter, and to understand which of our advertising works so we can spend less on the rest. We do not sell or rent your information. Ever.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers who operate this website, our phone and intake systems, and our advertising accounts, and only as needed to run them. Those providers are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Call tracking and recording
Phone numbers displayed on this site may be call-tracking numbers that forward to our office line. Calls always connect to our office. Calls may be recorded or monitored for quality; Florida is a two-party-consent state, and where a call may be recorded you will hear a disclosure at the start of the call. If you do not wish to be recorded, tell us and we will accommodate you.
Text messages
If you provide your mobile number, we may text you about your inquiry or case logistics. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to opt out of texts; doing so will not affect your ability to reach us by phone.
An important note about confidentiality
Contacting us through this website does not create an attorney-client relationship, and information submitted through the contact form is not privileged until that relationship exists. Please do not send confessions or sensitive case details through the form. Those belong in a privileged conversation, which starts with a phone call: (850) 444-7444.
Security and retention
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information this site collects, and we keep it only as long as needed for the purposes above or as the law and Bar record-keeping rules require. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, which is another reason serious case details belong on the phone, not in a web form.
Your choices
You may ask us what information we hold about you from this website, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, subject to legal and ethical record-keeping obligations. You can limit cookies through your browser settings, opt out of Google’s ad personalization at adssettings.google.com, and opt out of many advertising cookies at optout.networkadvertising.org.
Children
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has submitted information through this site, contact us and we will delete it. (If your child is facing a juvenile charge, that conversation should happen by phone, parent to attorney.)
Links to other sites
This site links to third-party sites, such as Google reviews and mapping services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above reflects the latest revision, and continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
